Yes, there's been this big sensational news going about the ex-Miss Singapore World 2009, Ris Low. And she had to give up her crown after a series of devastating events, beginning with her interview with Razor TV where she was criticised online about her bad english, following which, news of her credit card fraud was dug up and people began to view her in a negative light.
So, this makes me think, that before we do anything, we should always consider the consequences. And its a good thing that she said during the latest interview with straits times that she does not regret what she has said in the previous weeks of interviews. That's good, because she has made the decisions to do the interview with Razor TV and to admit to her fraud, so she should bear the full outcome, whether good or bad.
In my own personal opinion (note: personal opinion, so its not universal!), she should not have done the interview with Razor TV in the beginning. That has led indirectly to her downfall so it was bad for her. She's still a student, she needs to think of her future. Future employers may look at her photo and remember her, remember that she is the beauty queen who fell due to bad english, due to credit card fraud and due to being on probation for her fraud. Now that she has done her interview with Razor TV as the beauty queen, she should not have other contact with the media after the crown has been passed on to the second runner up (who, in my opinion, is very pretty and demure), because she has to let the limelight shine on the new winner, and retreat to the shadow. Then people will forget about her.
This incident also taught me one more lesson: choose your words wisely. Words may make or break your life. For example, some things that she should not have said was "stealing credit card was for fun"; "the thrill of stealing credit cards was there"; "i want to be a nurse". For the first two statements, it puts herself in a bad light, telling others that she actually enjoys stealing credit cards. For the third statement, it makes the public question her choice of course: if she wants to be a nurse, why study hospitality instead of nursing?
I am NOT going to put a link to her interview here, which i watched. I think she should not be further made fun of. The Sunday Times had put a Facebook Column in last week's lifestyle (3 Oct), My Paper had reported on her extensively, videos of her interviews are on the internet, and Singapore Idol also mimicked her "zebra preens" and "boomz". It is already pitiful enough that she has to deal with the paparazzi who caught onto this story, and i think she should be left alone to improve her english and improve her image. After all, she still has a long future ahead.
