I wish i don't have to stereotype, but circumstances are forcing me to. I know i must get out of that box, to learn to see the society as a whole, to understand that not everyone is like that, but i just can't. Well, at least not now. Let's hope that something comes and turns my view around.
So the story goes...
One day, a very lovely girl was walking out of school, which was situated at a prime area. She accidentally dropped her phone on the ground. A malaysian contractor picked up the sony slide phone (those types that have lumies block challenge in it) and sold it to a singaporean bus driver (you know, those bus drivers who ferries foreign workers around) for a mere $100, because that's all he needed to go back home. Obviously, the driver isn't going to return the phone, though he obtained it through illegal means because he paid $100 for it, which is part of his savings that he has. (N.B. Part of this story is fictional. )
So, now i'm thinking about how dishonest foreign workers can be. Worse still, he's from our neighbour country, Malaysia. It's not your phone, its not your property, you should at least return it. Ask for a reward from the owner than to sell it away. This way, it affects a whole load of people: the owner, the owner's family and the bus driver. The smart thing about the bus driver is that he refuses to give his particulars, because he could get caught for obtaining a phone through illegal means (not that he ever knows that, anyways). But that wisdom of his has caused the owner a lot of problems. Now the phone's lost, the contacts are lost, the money in the prepaid card is lost and worse still, it ended up giving the malaysian money to go home. He gets to enjoy his nice and cosy home while the owner is frustrated over this matter.
So much for government campaigns for assimilation of foreign workers. And Terry, sorry to rebut your lovely speech about "5 bangaladesh workers and a road sweeping machine!", because, if these workers don't prove themselves worthy of our society, how can we accept them?
